My love, we are not the first

My love, we are not the first

To fall asleep together, hands

intertwined, waking up

with a line

drawn

between.

We are not a war,

just two people in love.

We are not the first

nor last to know

heartbreak

from headlines.

My love,

we are nothing

in this crossfire. Trees

& rubble, hollow

craters

on soil that is neither

mine nor yours.
