BY DEATH, SHE LIVES

a feature by Jenna Vélez

and we watched Midsommar and saw ourselves in romantic isolation

and you hold my hand like a dying thing

that could be caressed to life

your breath is a sparkling pink

and i have known to love you today

and it feels like the soft skin stretched over your knuckles

i inhale and each breath’s mission

to make you laugh

to kiss your smile

to fuck you in a place untouched by men

we are holy tonight

flower crowned and bloody

from a moon not yet flushed away

i see in your hair color and the stuffed words

spilling out around an unlit cigarette

will you hold me to your mouth

and light it for you
